Marda Quon Stothers

My late husband Ward and I served in full-time faith-based ministry in Belfast, Northern Ireland from 2008-2014.  That experience formed my vocational call to come alongside (like Job’s friends), enliven faith (Acts 2:42) and practice reconciliation (Is 2:4, Micah 6:8).  I’m continuing to be interested in doing this through creativity and community building.

I am a Deacon in First Presbyterian Church Berkeley and on the Care Team.  I serve a local (sub)parish of 80 members and lead a Caregiver Support Group for the whole church of 700 members.  I am involved in the Facilities Committee to master plan the church campus to serve the ministry of the church going forward.  I have a new husband, Don Christianson.  We practice hospitality and have a household community of seven adults.  As well I manage a nonprofit property that provides housing with a Christian ethos for women at the local university campus.  I weave people and networks together.  I continue to mentor and support people in Northern Ireland through financial, prayer and connecting.

I am an advocate of creation care and stewardship of assets/resources.  I am an advocate of caregiver support as a Board member of Family Caregiver Alliance.  I am an advocate of the church being a true community of people who love one another as Jesus loved us.  My work advances the Kingdom of God by encouraging the people of the church to do the work of the Church demonstrating to the world the power of God in us to care for the infirmed, the caregivers, to reconcile people and to heal the earth.  We can alleviate poverty and sustain world peace.
