Hello, I’m Gaby. I’m a widow and I have a 5-year-old daughter. We are missionaries with YWAM, and while in this organization, God gave me the opportunity to work with different ethnic groups in southern Mexico. I once spent two months in different indigenous communities, far from my comfort zone, my safe space, and we crossed mountains to share the message of salvation. By getting involved with these ethnic groups and spending that time with them, I saw the need to work with children, as I realized they are a forgotten, neglected, and vulnerable group. I decided to work for them, to tell them about God, about His love for them, and about how important and special they are. Besides sharing the message of salvation, we always offered them classes in different skills: painting, art, culture, and jewelry making. Our goal was always to give them tools for life. I also saw the need for them to have Bible stories in their native language. It was astonishing to learn that there were no quality Bible books in their language. So I began to share the need that God had placed in my heart, and that’s where we started. Thanks to the support of translators and various organizations, we are now working on translating Bible stories for children into Tsotsil, Tseltal, Maya, and Zapotec, indigenous languages ​​of southern Mexico. It’s hard and arduous work, but we have always seen God’s hand guiding us and helping us to persevere.
